View on to south-west corner of building from Wishart Street

Elder and Cannon Architects have been engaged by Calmont Group to assume the role of lead consultant in the preparation and presentation of design proposals for full planning permission for a new build housing project at 148 Wishart Street, Glasgow.

The application site is located on Wishart Street, across from the Royal Infirmary Hospital and directly north of, but outwith, the Cathedral Character area of the Glasgow Central Conservation Area. A segment of the site around the corner and up Firpark Street looks onto the modern housing development of Firpark Court and to the junction of Alexandra Parade and the M8 motorway beyond. The site area of cleared ground still adjoins neighbouring one storey commercial light industrial units to the north and east, and more significantly bounds onto the north west corner edge of the Category A listed Necropolis Cemetery which is a designated Historic Garden and Designed Landscape, as well as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.

The proposal is for a development of 79 Build To Rent flats with supporting communal accommodation including internal and external amenity spaces and servicing. The dwellings will principally comprise one bed flats along with a number of studio apartments and some larger two bed corner flats. They are to be provided in a single brick-built apartment block of 7 storeys with common landscaped courtyard spaces, roof terrace and extensive private balconies.
